Solstickan match tin
You know how we appreciate a good bit of graphic design here at Utility. Well here's a doozy for you: A beautiful pressed can of matches made by Solstickan.
Einar Nerman drew the original design for the Solstickan Foundation - a drawing of his son. The Solstickan Foundation was set up 'for the benefit of children and the elderly'. The basic idea was that Solstickan matches were a cheap product, used daily and hardly anyone would refrain from buying them. Since matchboxes were sold in the millions, millions of pennies eventually became big money.
Of all the matches sold in Sweden, 98 percent are of the Solstickan brand, and for every box of matches, part of the proceeds goes to the matchstick fund.
100 matches with a striker on the bottom. Refills available. And the refill boxes are pretty nice too. They have a tear out striker to replace the one on the bottom of the tin if it gets all struck out.
