For those of you without teflon hands, here are a couple of kinds of wooden tongs for you. We have cooking/barbeque tongs (30cm) and some toast tongs.  The toast ones are 17cm and they're less fun than sticking a knife in the toaster but certainly less risky.

STOP PRESS: just in - an excellent suggestion from a customer, the BBQ tongs are excellent slug-slingers. She's quite right, if you pick them up, you'll never get the slime off your fingers. And using a stick never seems to work very well.

They're made from beechwood and they benefit from a little wipe with vegetable oil before the first use.

Use with care!

They are nice and springy, but of course don’t open really any wider than shown in the photo. They wash ok but require more than a wipe. In short, they’re wood, not metal or plastic, so they can’t be abused in the way smoother materials can be. But that makes them all the nicer to use!
