Solstickan tea tray

A beautiful piece of graphic design from Solstickan. 

Solstickan is a much loved Swedish brand of matches. And here's the fabulous design on a birch ply tea tray. So nice you might have to hang it on the wall.

It's only dinky, measuring 27x20cm... enough for a couple of cups of tea.

Einar Nerman drew the original design for the Solstickan Foundation - a drawing of his son. The Solstickan Foundation was set up 'for the benefit of children and the elderly'. The basic idea was that Solstickan matches were a cheap product, used daily and hardly anyone would refrain from buying them. Since matchboxes were sold in the millions, millions of pennies eventually became big money.

Of all the matches sold in Sweden, 98 percent are of the Solstickan brand, and for every box of matches, part of the proceeds goes to the matchstick fund.
